The Hotel CTO's Guide to AI in 2025: Where to Start
Artificial intelligence has moved from buzzword to business imperative in hospitality. But for most hotel technology leaders, the challenge isn't whether to adopt AI — it's knowing where to start when every vendor is promising transformation.
The most common mistake we see is chasing AI for its own sake. Hotels invest in flashy chatbots or recommendation engines without first understanding where AI actually moves the needle on revenue, guest experience, or operational efficiency.
Start with your data. AI is only as good as the data feeding it. Before any AI initiative, assess your data quality across PMS, CRS, CRM, and POS systems. Fragmented or low-quality data will undermine even the best AI tools.
Next, prioritize by value. The highest-value AI use cases in hospitality today are revenue management optimization, dynamic pricing, guest personalization, demand forecasting, and operational automation. Score each opportunity by potential impact and implementation difficulty.
Finally, build governance from day one. AI without governance is a liability. Establish clear policies for data usage, model oversight, bias monitoring, and accountability before deploying any AI system at scale.
The hotels winning with AI in 2025 aren't the ones with the most tools — they're the ones with the clearest strategy. Focus on outcomes, not technology.
